Eligibility Criteria for JKSSB Junior Engineer Mechanical Recruitment 2026

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have a 3-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a Government recognised institute, or an Indian University Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or AMIE Section (A&B) India. The qualification must be obtained on or before the cut-off date, 15 December 2026.

Domicile Requirement

Candidates must be domiciles of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir and hold a valid Domicile Certificate in the prescribed format, issued on or before 15 December 2026.

Age Limit (As on 01-01-2026)

• Ex-Servicemen: The period of service in the Armed Forces is deducted from actual age. If the resultant age does not exceed the maximum age limit by more than 3 years, the candidate satisfies the age condition. Candidates must not be born after 01-01-2008.
• Candidates must therefore be at least 18 years old as on 01-01-2026.

JKSSB Junior Engineer Mechanical Salary Structure 2026

The post carries Pay Level-6 (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400) as given in the notification. Appointment and service conditions are governed by the rules and regulations of the Government of UT of J&K.

Selection Process for JKSSB Junior Engineer Mechanical 2026

1. Written / OMR Examination: Selection is made purely on merit marks obtained in the written / OMR examination.
2. Document Verification (DV): Shortlisted candidates must appear with original documents and self-attested photocopies.
3. Final allotment is made on a merit-cum-preference basis.

JKSSB Junior Engineer Mechanical Exam Scheme and Syllabus 2026

• The examination consists of Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions, set in English only.
• There is negative marking of one-fourth (1/4) of the marks assigned to a question for each wrong answer.
• The exam date and centres will be notified separately on jkssb.nic.in.
• The syllabus will be notified separately by JKSSB and made available on the official website. Number of questions and total marks are not given in this notification.
• Candidates must carry the printed admit card, two recent passport size colour photographs (not older than 6 months, with date) and an original valid Photo-ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Driving Licence, PAN, Passport, School / College / University or Employer ID) to the exam hall.
• Mobile phones, smart watches, smart glasses, AI-enabled devices and any electronic or communication device are strictly prohibited, even in switched-off mode.
• PwBD candidates may use a scribe and compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour, with the certificate in Annexure-B and an undertaking in Annexure-C. They must have applied as PwBD in the application form.

• Fee can be paid online only, through Net Banking, Credit Card or Debit Card.
• Applications without the prescribed fee are rejected. Fee once paid is not refundable and cannot be adjusted against any other exam.
• Refund requests for excess payment, if any, must be sent only to the official e-mail given in the notification (ssbjk-grievance.jk.gov.in). No chargeback request is entertained.

How to Apply for JKSSB Junior Engineer Mechanical Recruitment 2026?

1. Visit the official JKSSB website jkssb.nic.in.
2. Find the online application link for Advertisement Notification No. 10 of 2026 (the portal and filling instructions will be published on the website).
3. Fill in the application form carefully. Name, date of birth and parents' names must match the Matriculation certificate.
4. Upload live photograph and signature (10 KB to 20 KB each), category certificate and qualification certificates (self-attested, PDF, maximum 200 KB each).
5. Pay the application fee online, submit the form and take a printout of the application.
6. Apply on or between 16 November 2026 and 15 December 2026.

• Reserved category candidates must upload a valid category certificate in the prescribed format, valid on the cut-off date. No further chance to upload is given.
• Only one application is allowed for the same item number. If more than one is found, the latest application is considered.
• Changes in the application form are not allowed after submission.
• In-service candidates: must send a printout of the application with the signed certificate through the proper channel (Head of Department) to the office of the Secretary, JKSSB, by or before the last date of Document Verification.
• Document Verification: candidates must bring originals and self-attested copies of the application, Birth, Domicile and Category certificates, and educational certificates. ESM candidates need a Form-XIV certificate. Candidates with a degree from outside J&K (other than Central Universities) need a Bonafide Certificate in the JKSSB format. No TA/DA is paid.
• Do not send hard copies of the application to the JKSSB office.
