Eligibility Criteria for NIC Scientific/Technical Assistant-A Recruitment 2026

Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold a pass in M.Sc./MS/MCA/B.E./B.Tech. in relevant fields depending on the discipline applied for:

• Computer Sciences & Information Technology (GATE Code: CS): Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Electronics & Telecommunication, Computer Sciences, Computer and Networking Security, Software System, Information Technology, or Informatics.
• Electronics and Communication Engineering (GATE Code: EC)
• Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (GATE Code: DA)

A valid GATE score of 2024, 2025, or 2026 in the corresponding paper code is mandatory. No experience is required. The candidate must possess the essential qualification on the closing date, i.e. 30 September 2026.

NIC Scientific/Technical Assistant-A Salary Structure 2026

Selected candidates will be appointed as a Group-B S&T (Non-Gazetted) post in Level-6 (Rs. 35,400 – Rs. 1,12,400) of the 7th Central Pay Commission, along with applicable Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, and other government benefits.

Selection Process for NIC Scientific/Technical Assistant-A 2026

1. Discipline-wise merit list preparation based on valid GATE Score (2024/2025/2026)
2. Equal weightage given to GATE 2024, 2025, and 2026 scores
3. Document Verification of shortlisted candidates
4. Provisional appointment subject to fulfilment of eligibility criteria

Scheme of Examination and Syllabus

There is no separate written examination for this recruitment. The merit list is prepared purely on the basis of the candidate's valid GATE score in the relevant paper code (CS, EC, or DA) for the year 2024, 2025, or 2026. In case of a tie, the older GATE year is ranked higher; if still tied, the older candidate by age is ranked higher; if still tied, the higher percentage in the essential qualification decides the rank.

Registration and Application Fee

Candidates applying for more than one discipline must pay Rs. 800/- separately for each discipline. Fee is payable online only and is non-refundable.
