    UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 – Apply Online for 127 Posts

    The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released Examination Notice No. 01/2027-GEOL inviting online applications for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination, 2027, for 127 posts of Geologist, Geophysicist, Chemist, Scientist ‘B’ and their Assistant-level equivalents in the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB). Eligible postgraduates can apply online from 02 September 2026 to 22 September 2026 through the UPSC Online Recruitment Application portal.

    10 vacancies (8 in GSI and 2 in CGWB) are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability across Orthopedic, Hearing, and Locomotor categories. Vacancies are tentative and liable to alteration; appointments will be made on a temporary basis in the first instance.

    Eligibility Criteria for UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027

    Educational Qualification

    A relevant Master's Degree (or Integrated Master's Degree) from a recognized University is required depending on the stream applied for: Geological Science/Geology/Applied Geology and allied fields for Geologist and Assistant Geologist posts; M.Sc. in Physics/Geophysics and allied fields for Geophysicist and Assistant Geophysicist posts; M.Sc. in Chemistry/Applied Chemistry and allied fields for Chemist and Assistant Chemist posts; and Geology/Hydrogeology for Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology) and Assistant Hydrogeologist posts.

    Age Limit (As on 01.01.2027)

    • Minimum Age: 21 Years
    • Maximum Age: 32 Years (born between 02.01.1995 and 01.01.2006)
    • Age relaxation: up to 5 years for Government servants in the corresponding department, and standard relaxations for SC/ST, OBC, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen categories as per Government of India rules

    Salary Structure

    The notification does not specify pay scale figures. Selected Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ candidates will be paid as per the applicable Government of India pay rules for the respective post and organisation.

    Selection Process for UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027

    1. Stage-I: Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination – Objective Type (400 marks)
    2. Stage-II: Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination – Conventional/Descriptive Type (600 marks)
    3. Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview (200 marks)

    Marks from the Preliminary Examination are counted toward the final merit along with the Main Examination and Interview.

    There is a penalty of one-third of the marks assigned to a question for each wrong answer in the objective Preliminary papers; unanswered questions carry no penalty. Candidates admitted to the Main Examination will be about six to seven times the approximate number of vacancies.

    Registration and Examination Fee

    Candidates are required to pay a fee of ₹200/- via net banking or Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Card/UPI payment. All Female candidates and candidates belonging to SC/ST are exempted from the fee. Persons with Benchmark Disability are also exempted. No fee exemption is available to OBC/EWS candidates. Fee once paid is non-refundable.
