Eligibility Criteria for SSC JE Recruitment 2026

Educational Qualification

The required qualification depends on the post. Eligible candidates may need a recognized degree or three-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline. Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electrical & Mechanical and Telecom posts have branch-specific qualifications. For Scientific Assistant in IMD, a bachelor's degree in Science with Physics as one subject, or specified bachelor's qualifications in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Electronics & Telecommunication, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication or Communication Engineering is prescribed.

Experience Where Prescribed

For posts where experience is required, the experience must have been obtained after acquiring the prescribed educational qualification. Internship, training or research experience gained during the qualifying course is not counted as the required experience.

Age Limit

The notification prescribes a maximum age of 30 years for most listed posts and 32 years for specified posts, with age reckoned as on 01 August 2026. The notice does not state a separate minimum age in the eligibility table. Age relaxation is available as per Government rules, including 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10/13/15 years for specified PwBD categories and applicable relaxation for Ex-Servicemen and eligible defence personnel.

Nationality / Citizenship

Candidates must satisfy the nationality/citizenship conditions prescribed in the examination notice. Indian citizens are eligible, while specified categories of subjects of Nepal or Bhutan and eligible persons of Indian origin may also be considered subject to the required Government of India eligibility certificate.

Important BRO Conditions

Junior Engineer posts in the Border Roads Organisation have additional physical and medical standards. The notice states that only male candidates are eligible for BRO JE posts, and selected candidates must satisfy the prescribed physical efficiency and medical requirements.

SSC JE Salary Structure 2026

Selected candidates for the notified posts are placed in Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix.

• Pay Scale: ₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400
• Pay Level: Level-6
• Other admissible government benefits and allowances are applicable according to the concerned post, organization and rules.

Selection Process for SSC JE 2026

1. Computer-Based Examination Paper-I.
2. Shortlisting for Paper-II based on normalized Paper-I marks and minimum qualifying requirements.
3. Computer-Based Examination Paper-II in the relevant technical subject.
4. Final selection and allocation based on Paper-II performance and post/organization preferences, subject to eligibility and applicable rules.
5. Document Verification by the concerned user organization/department.
6. Post-specific physical or medical standards, where applicable, including the additional BRO requirements.

Paper-I is qualifying in nature. Normalized Paper-II scores are used for final merit. The minimum qualifying percentages for Paper-I and Paper-II are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS and 20% for all other categories.

• Civil & Structural: engineering mechanics, solid mechanics, structural analysis, construction materials and management, estimating and costing, concrete and steel structures, surveying, soil mechanics, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, hydrology, irrigation, environmental engineering, transportation and traffic engineering.
• Electrical: electrical circuits, network theorems, magnetic circuits, AC fundamentals, measurements, electrical machines, generators, generation/transmission/distribution, estimation and costing, electrical energy utilization, basic electronics and power electronics.
• Mechanical: engineering mechanics, strength of materials, theory of machines, machine design, materials science, thermal engineering, fluid mechanics and hydraulic machinery, industrial engineering, manufacturing, metrology and advanced manufacturing processes.
• Computer Science & IT: engineering mathematics, digital logic, computer architecture, programming and data structures, algorithms, theory of computation, compiler design, operating systems, databases and computer networks.

• Telecommunication Engineering: engineering mathematics, network analysis, signals and systems, electronic devices, analog circuits, digital circuits, control systems, analog communications, digital communications and electromagnetics.

Paper-I contains compulsory General Intelligence & Reasoning and General Awareness sections plus the technical subject selected according to eligibility. Candidates for Scientific Assistant in IMD select one of Part-D, Part-E or Part-F according to their qualifying stream. Paper-I and Paper-II consist of objective multiple-choice questions in Hindi and English.

Negative marking: 0.25 mark is deducted for each wrong answer in Paper-I and 1 mark for each wrong answer in Paper-II. Marks are normalized where required for multiple shifts.

Registration and Examination Fee

Fee payments and correction charges are made online through the modes specified by SSC, including BHIM UPI, Net Banking and supported debit cards. The examination fee once paid is non-refundable.

How to Apply for SSC JE Recruitment 2026?

1. Visit the new official SSC website at ssc.gov.in.
2. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the SSC website. OTR created on the old SSC website is not functional on the new website.
3. Log in using the registration number and password.
4. Open the Junior Engineer Examination, 2026 application under the Live Examination section.
5. Select the eligible post, qualifying education level and relevant examination subject/stream.
6. Enter the required academic, category, ESM and other details and upload the required documents.
7. Capture and submit the live photograph and upload the signature according to SSC requirements. Aadhaar-based authentication is available.
8. Choose examination centres and complete the declaration and preview checks.
9. Pay the applicable fee online, if not exempted, and submit the application.
10. Save or print the successfully submitted application for future reference.
