GATE Requirement
A valid GATE score from 2024, 2025 or 2026 is mandatory in the applicable paper: CS, EC or DA. Candidates should submit their best eligible score from one of these years.

Age Limit
Age is calculated as on 30 September 2026. The upper age limit is 30 years for UR/EWS. The advertisement provides relaxation for eligible categories and special categories.

NIC Scientific/Technical Assistant-A Salary Structure 2026
The post is a Group-B S&T (Non-Gazetted) position in Level 6 of the 7th CPC.
- Pay Scale: Rs. 35,400 – Rs. 1,12,400
- Other applicable allowances and benefits are governed by Government/NIC rules.
Selection Process for NIC Scientific/Technical Assistant-A 2026
- Eligibility screening of registered applications.
- Category-wise merit list for each discipline based on GATE score.
- Equal weightage for GATE 2024, 2025 and 2026 scores.
- Document verification of shortlisted candidates.
- Provisional appointment after successful verification and fulfilment of prescribed conditions.
Tie-breaking: older GATE score year ranks higher; if the year is the same, the older candidate ranks higher; if still tied, higher percentage in the essential qualification ranks higher.
Scheme of Examination and Syllabus
No separate NIC written examination is prescribed. Merit is prepared from the valid GATE score in the applicable paper. Candidates should therefore prepare according to the relevant GATE syllabus for CS, EC or DA. The notification does not provide a separate NIC examination syllabus.
