Eligibility Criteria for East Coast Railway GDCE Recruitment 2026
Who Can Apply?
- The candidate must be a regular employee / lien holder of East Coast Railway, including erstwhile Waltair Division/SCoR.
- RPF/RPSF employees are not eligible.
- Employees who resigned or transferred to another Railway from East Coast Railway are not eligible.
- Eligible employees possessing the prescribed educational qualification for Direct Recruitment and working in a lower grade/pay scale may appear for all applicable categories.
- Eligible employees in the same grade/pay scale may apply for GDCE from Non-Safety to Safety category posts as well as Safety to Safety category posts, subject to the prescribed requirements.
Age Limit
The age limit is reckoned as on 01 January 2027. The upper age limit is 42 years for UR, 45 years for OBC and 47 years for SC/ST. The notification specifies the corresponding date-of-birth cut-offs and states that there is no age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates applying against unreserved vacancies.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess the prescribed minimum educational/Technical qualification for the selected post as on the date of the GDCE notification, as detailed in Annexure-B. Candidates awaiting the result of the final examination of the prescribed minimum qualification should not apply.
Reservation
SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates must produce valid community certificates in the prescribed formats during Document Verification. OBC-NCL candidates must also provide the required non-creamy-layer declaration. The notification states that there is no separate EWS reservation for these GDCE vacancies.

Shortlisting for CBAT/Typing Skill Test is generally up to eight times the vacancies. Candidates are shortlisted for Document Verification based on marks and merit in the applicable CBT/CBAT. Appointment is subject to the prescribed medical fitness, final verification of educational/community certificates and antecedent/character verification.
Negative marking: In CBTs, 1/3 of the marks allotted to a question is deducted for each incorrect answer. There is no negative marking in CBAT.
Minimum CBT eligibility marks: UR – 40%, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) – 30%, SC – 30%, ST – 25%. The notification permits a 2-mark relaxation for PwBD candidates where there is a shortage against PwBD-reserved vacancies.

- Trade Specific: Questions based on common DGT/MSDE syllabus topics for the relevant trade. Candidates with ITI/Trade Apprenticeship qualifications appear in the relevant trade section; eligible Degree/Diploma candidates select the relevant trade according to their engineering discipline.
ALP – Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
- Candidates up to eight times the number of ALP vacancies in each applicable category are shortlisted for CBAT based on CBT marks and reservation rules.
- Vision Certificate and prescribed self-declaration must be produced in original at CBAT.
- Each CBAT test battery/section must be cleared separately.
- CBAT is conducted in English and Hindi and has no negative marking.
- Minimum qualifying standard is a T-score of 42 in each test battery.
- For the final ALP merit list, CBT carries 50% weightage and CBAT carries 50% weightage among candidates who qualify CBAT.
