    Western Railway Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 64 Posts

    The Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC), Western Railway has released Employment Notice No. RRC/WR/01/2026 (Sports Quota) dated 27 August 2026 for recruitment against the Open Advertisement Sports Quota for the year 2026-27. Western Railway invites online applications from eligible Indian sportspersons for 64 posts, comprising 21 posts of Group ‘C’ and 43 posts of erstwhile Group ‘D’.     There is no reservation for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD and Ex-Servicemen in these Sports Quota vacancies. If the five Level 5/4 vacancies are not filled because suitable candidates are unavailable, they may be downgraded to Level 3/2 and used for suitable candidates in the advertised disciplines. Sportspersons with higher sports norms may be considered for lower-level vacancies subject to the undertaking specified in the notification.

    Eligibility Criteria for Western Railway Sports Quota Recruitment 2026

    Age Limit

    The candidate must be 18 to 25 years of age as on 01 January 2027. Candidates born between 01 January 2002 and 01 January 2009, both dates inclusive, are eligible to apply.

    Educational Qualification

    Level Minimum Prescribed Educational Qualification
    Level 5/4 Graduate in any discipline from a recognized University.
    Level 3/2 Passed 12Th (+2 stage) or equivalent from a recognized Board; OR Matriculation plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship; OR Matriculation plus ITI approved by NCVT/SCVT.
    Level 1 10Th Pass from a recognized Board; OR ITI; OR equivalent; OR National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT.

    Candidates awaiting the final result of the prescribed educational qualification are not eligible. Candidates possessing higher qualifications must produce the relevant certificate at the time of trial. Candidates appointed as Clerk-cum-Typist must qualify a typing proficiency test of 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi within four years of appointment; until then, the appointment remains provisional.

    Sports Achievement Eligibility

    Only active sportspersons who acquired the prescribed sports-achievement eligibility norms in championships/events held from 01 April 2024 to 27 August 2026 (date of notification) are eligible. The concluding day of the championship/event is considered for validity, and the specific playing position, where applicable, must be mentioned in the online application.

    Level 5/4 Sports Norms

    • Represented India in Olympic Games (Senior Category); OR
    • At least 3rd position in World Cup, World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympics, Champions Trophy (Hockey) or Thomas/Uber Cup (Badminton), as applicable to the categories specified in the notification.

    Level 3/2 Sports Norms

    • Represented India in the World Cup, World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympics, Champions Trophy (Hockey) or Thomas/Uber Cup (Badminton); OR
    • At least 3rd position in Commonwealth Championship, Asian Championship/Asia Cup, South Asian Federation Games, USIC (World Railways) Championship or World University Games; OR
    • At least 3rd position in Senior/Youth/Junior National Championships; OR
    • At least 3rd position in National Games organized under the Indian Olympic Association; OR
    • At least 3rd position in All India Inter University Championship organized under the Association of Indian Universities; OR
    • 1st position in Federation Cup Championships (Senior category).

    Level 1 Sports Norms

    • Represented in Commonwealth Championship, Asian Championship/Asia Cup, South Asian Federation Games, USIC (World Railways) Championship or World University Games; OR
    • At least 3rd position in Federation Cup Championships (Senior category); OR
    • Represented a State or equivalent unit, except Marathon and Cross Country, with at least 8th position in Senior National Championships.

    Additional Sports Norms for Specific Disciplines

    • Athletics: Medal-winning performance in National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship may be considered for Level 3/2 and below. Gold medal winners in Open National Championship (Senior), Inter State Athletics Championship (Senior) and Asian Championship (Senior) may also be considered for Level 5/4 and below.
    • Ball Badminton: Achievements in events conducted by BBFI or its affiliated units after 17 December 2025 and up to the notification date are considered.
    • Body Building: Achievements in events conducted by IBBF or affiliated units after 31 December 2021 are not considered; recognized certificates from Associations of Indian Universities and International Federations are permissible.
    • Boxing: Youth-category achievements on or after 25 September 2016 in International Championships are considered in place of Junior category.
    • Cricket: For Level 3/2, the notification accepts quarter-finalist status in specified Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter-State Group Championships, participation in specified All India Inter-Zonal Championships, or participation in specified Challenger Trophy competitions.
    • Handball: Participation and medal-winning performances in events organized by Handball Association of India or affiliated units on or after 05 September 2023 are not considered; recognized University and International Federation certificates are permissible.
    • Hockey (Men): Participation in International Tournaments of four or more nations and being a semi-finalist in Senior National Championships may also be considered for Level 3/2.
    • Hockey (Women): At least 2nd position in International Tournaments of four or more nations may also be considered for Level 3/2.
    • Volleyball (Women): Achievements in events conducted by Volleyball Federation of India or affiliated units after 02 January 2017 are not considered; recognized University and International Federation certificates are permissible.
    • Powerlifting: Achievements in events conducted by Indian Powerlifting Federation or affiliated units after 03 October 2017 are not considered; recognized University and International Federation certificates are permissible.
    • Weightlifting: Achievements from 01 June 2025 using the updated bodyweight categories are considered.
    • Wrestling: Certificates for events conducted by WFI or affiliated units after 10 March 2025 and up to the notification date are considered.

    All championships must be conducted under recognized International/National Sports Federations and recognized by the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB). The notification states that certificates from National Championships conducted by a federation not recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports at the relevant time will not be accepted. Candidates can be considered only in the advertised event/position/game for which they have recognized sports norms, and final employment is subject to fitness for the Western Railway Sports Association team.

    The notification states that emoluments on initial appointment will be the minimum pay of the applicable level plus other admissible allowances. During training, only the applicable stipend is paid. A service bond of five years is required at the time of appointment.

    Selection Process for Western Railway Sports Quota 2026

    1. Document Verification for eligible/provisionally eligible candidates.
    2. Sports Trial to assess game skill, physical fitness and coach’s observation.
    3. Only candidates securing 25 or more out of 40 marks in the trial are treated as FIT and assessed further by the Recruitment Committee.
    4. Final merit is prepared from sports achievement, trial performance and educational qualification marks.
    5. Appointment is subject to medical fitness, verification of documents and antecedents/character, and selection for the Western Railway Sports Association team.

    Appointment offers are made purely on merit. If candidates have equal marks, preference is given to the younger candidate.

    Registration and Examination Fee – Western Railway Sports Quota 2026

    Fee payment is online through the integrated payment gateway using Debit Card, Credit Card, Internet Banking, UPI or other available modes. Online transaction charges, if any, are borne by the candidate. Applications without fee payment are rejected.

    For this notification, Minorities include Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Zoroastrians (Parsis) and Jains. EBC means candidates whose annual family income is less than ₹50,000. Required declarations/certificates must be submitted as prescribed.

    1. Visit the official RRC Western Railway website at www.rrc-wr.com.
    2. Open the online application link for Employment Notice No. RRC/WR/01/2026 (Sports Quota).
    3. Fill in personal details, educational qualifications, sports achievements and the exact discipline/event/position carefully.
    4. Enter the required Aadhaar details. Candidates who have enrolled for Aadhaar but have not received the card may furnish the 28-digit Aadhaar Enrolment ID as prescribed.
    5. Upload the required photograph and signature in the prescribed format.
    6. Upload the applicable educational, sports achievement, date-of-birth, caste/community, OBC declaration, minority declaration or EBC documents as required.
    7. Review all information carefully and pay the applicable fee online.
    8. Submit the application and preserve the registration number and printout of the submitted application.
    9. No application printout, certificates or copies need to be sent to RRC-WR by post.
    10. If applying for more than one discipline/game/event or more than one pay level, submit separate applications with separate fees. Multiple applications with varied particulars for the same discipline are liable to rejection.

    Photograph and Signature Requirements

    • Photograph: colour, 3.5 cm × 3.5 cm, JPG/JPEG, 100 DPI, 20 KB–70 KB, not older than three months from the date of application, clear front view without cap or sunglasses.
    • Signature: 3.5 cm × 2.5 cm, JPG/JPEG, 100 DPI, 20 KB–30 KB; it must not be in block/capital letters or disjoined letters.
